I was impressed by the bright orange color and interesting texture of the petals on the blooms of this hibiscus that grows in my garden in southern California, and wanted to capture its cheerful quality with watercolors.
As an artist, I am interested in painting and capturing images of all the beauty that surrounds us. We live in an incredibly beautiful world, and I try not to take that for granted. I paint with watercolors (my favorite medium), acrylics, alcohol inks, color pencils, sometimes mixing different mediums for certain effects. I also try capturing interesting views or angles with my camera. Depending on the subject, I may modify a photograph digitally to create a totally different and interesting image.
